Hadar Goldin was a second lieutenant in the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). He was the focus of international diplomatic and media attention on 1 August 2014 during Operation Protective Edge when, during an attack on his unit by Hamas militants, he was reported to have been captured by Hamas. The incident was notable in diplomatic terms because it took place 90 minutes after a ceasefire had gone into effect. In fact, Goldin had been killed in the ambush, not kidnapped.
