He was an American chemist. Turro was known as a world leader in the field of organic photochemistry. He graduated at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn and earned a BA degree in chemistry and PhD. degree in organic photochemistry at Caltech. Turro was a member of both the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He died of pancreatic cancer.
