Balanathan Benjamin Mahendran was an Indian filmmaker, cinematographer, screenwriter and editor who was widely regarded as an auteur in Cinema of India. Born in a Sri Lankan Tamil household in Sri Lanka, Mahendra developed an early interest in photography. After witnessing the shoot of David Lean's The Bridge on the River Kwai, Mahendra became passionate about film-making.
