He was a German businessman. Albrecht was one of two sons of the Aldi Nord founder Theo Albrecht. He was chairman of the non-resolvable Markus Foundation which is responsible for the overall assets of Aldi Nord. He cared mainly about the U.S. retail grocery chain Trader Joe's, which belongs since 1979 to the Aldi Nord Group.
Berthold Albrecht was one of the richest Germans. In the Forbes list of 2012 he is with his brother Theo, Jr. in second place, with a total estimated capacity of approximately 17.8 billion dollars behind her uncle Karl Albrecht.
