She was a Canadian nursing educator. After graduating School of Nursing she worked as a staff nurse at the Vancouver General Hospital. After she served during Wordl War II as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. Then she continued her studies: she attended McGill University, wher she received Bachelor´s Degree in Nursing, on Columbia University Teachers College she received her Master´s of Arts and she was first woman, who received a doctoral degree from Columbia University. Helen Kathleen Mussallem was also Executive Director of the Canadian Nurses Association and the President of the Victorian Order of Nurses.
