He has recently worked as an expert commentator for Eurosport, but he was best known as the Norwegian national team coach in cross country. During his time as head coach took the Norwegian cross-country guys 15 Olympic and World Championship gold. Bråten worked as coach for Sweden in the period 2005-2007. In the end, including three gold during the Turin Olympics in 2006. He was also coach of Canada and Switzerland.
