She was an American schoolteacher, activist and social reformer. Her activism began after the 1972 Inner Circle dinner in Manhattan, an annual black-tie affair. She became involved with the civil rights and equality movement. Manford became a founder of group PFLAG - Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. Her son Morty was known advocate for gay-rights. Passed away on January 8, 2013.
