Irving James Shapley was my uncle. He died of prostrate cancer. He was cremated and his ashes were scattered over the sea (as reported on the Pennsylvania Veterans Burial Cards, 1929-1990; Archive Collection Number: Series 3; Folder Number: 818).

I barely got to know him. He had disappeared and lost contact from his parents and siblings around 1945 while in the Navy (military service as stated in the U. S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010; Original Record: Beneficiary Identification Records Locator Subsystem (BIRLS) Death File. Washington, D. C.: U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs). He was found sometime in 1980. We had a reunion get together for him in spring 1981. All his siblings were there, and his mother (my grandmother). His father died in 1947. I and my and my siblings also attended as did our children. It is unknown at this time whether he married. I am continuing the research for this information. If anyone has any information regarding my uncle please email me at balencialopez@gmail. com, thank you.
