Deng Liqun (1915-2015) *99

Deng Liqun was a Chinese former official and high-ranking member of the Communist Party of China. Deng was born in Guidong County, Hunan province, and joined thee Party in 1936. He came from an intellectual family and joined the Party out of intellectual commitment. During the 1950s, Deng assisted Wang Zhen in putting down resistance to CPC rule in Xinjiang. Later, he served as secretary to President Liu Shaoqi. He was purged during the Cultural Revolution, but was later rehabilitated, serving on the State Council and as vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He was often referred to as "Little Deng", to be distinguished from Deng Xiaoping, the "Old Deng".
