He was an American Democratic politician.
Throughout his political career he served as a state trooper for thirty years, as a vice chairman of the Senate committee on Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety, and as a member of several institutions. He married Mary Ann Holden and they had together two daughters: Alesha Garrett and Andrea Long. Jones died on December 14, 2013. The cause of death was a pancreatic cancer.
