Was a British Labour politician and life peer. Called the Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract. He married when he was 20 years old and had one daughter. He was MP for Pontefract and Castleford from 1978 until 1997 when he became Baron Lofthouse of Pontefract. He first worked as a miner and then entered politics in 1962.
