He was a famous Dutch filmmaker, animator, painter and in particular many-sided artist. Throughout his art career he earned numerous significant awards, like the French State Award (for cubeMENcube), a Golden Calf at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht (A Good Turn Daily) and two Golden Bears at the Berlinale, Berlin’s international film festival. He was also appointed Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, in 1998.
