He was known under the nickname Jim. Whalen was a professional American football tight end. He graduated from the Cambridge Rindge High School and from the Boston College where he was a standout Tight End on the football teams. Throughout his active sports career he played for several teams including Boston Patriots, Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles. He was elected of City of Cambridge Hall of Fame, Boston College Hall of Fame and the Boston Patriots All Time Team. Whalen passed away at his home on December 18, 2012.
