He was a Bishop Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Diocese of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas. He was ordained a priest in São Paulo, in 1971 and Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, in 2002. He had diagnosed with a tumor on the liver.
