He was a longtime Ottawa archbishop who served as a Roman Catholic bishop for almost 49 years. Plourde was ordained a priest in 1944. Later was named auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall in Ontario in 1964. Three years later was appointed as an archbishop of Ottawa. Joseph-Aurèle Plourde passed away on January 5, 2013.
