Keith E Iwohn (1923-2007) *84

Son of Fred & Nettie (Packer) Iwohn.

Keith attended school in Clatonia and graduated from Clatonia High School in 1941. Keith married Carol Marohn on June 5, 1943, in Gainsville, Texas, and they had one daughter, Mary. On February 4, 1943, Keith entered the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 86th Division, 311 Combat Engineers, and served in Europe and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on January 24, 1946. He was a member of the National Guard from 1947 -1952 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. Keith moved to Nebraska and from 1946 - 1949 worked for Store Kraft in Beatrice. Keith moved to Columbus in 1949 and went to work for Leo Woerth Construction and Wilbur Reiche Construction before becoming self-employed.

Keith was a past vestry member and Junior Warden of Grace Episcopal Church and did volunteer carpenter work for the church and for the Mid-East Nebraska Mental Health Clinic. He was the first volunteer transporter at the Rainbow Center where he drove for more than 15 years. Keith also provided transportation for the elderly to church services and drove for meals on wheels. In 1987, Keith received an award from the Rainbow Center for his services. Keith was an avid gardener of flowers, fruits, and vegetables; preserving the produce himself. Keith also enjoyed birds, animals, and sports, especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In 1998, he was awarded the 50 year member American Legion Hartman Post 84 Award. Keith was also a member of the Platte County Historical Society.
