was an Indian politician who served as Minister of State for External Affairs in the Manmohan Singh government (2004–14). He represented the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency of Kerala and was the National President of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
On 31 January 2017, he suffered a cardiac arrest during the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament. He was admitted critically in ICU in RML Hospital at Capital. On 1 February 2017, the hospital officially announced his death at 2.15 am (IST).
