He was a Czech writer and dramatist, one of the first spokesmen of Charter 77, leader of the political changes in November 1989, former president of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic, the last president of Czechoslovakia and first president of the Czech Republic.
