There is literally not anything I can say about Gloria Ytuarte that would do her presence on this earth any justice. "Dawdee" as she was lovingly known by her family was pure magic. As a child, I would blow bubbles and Dawdee could catch them in the palm of her hand without it popping. Many claim this was due to a lotion she used. Others say it was in the way she held her hand. I say, and I am still convinced, that it was because she was magic. So many memories of Dawdee to share... her home in East Meadow, NY that I can still remember every square inch of. Friendly's Ice Cream Parlor. South Side Seafood Market. Jones' Beach. The love. The affection. The warmth. The sweetest Brooklyn accent you can ever hear! Dawdee and her husband Justo were married 54 years. On December 14, 1997, Dawdee was killed in an automobile accident. The tragedy shocked the many people who grew up so blessed by her presence in their lives. Justo stayed close with Dawdee's family and later died in 2005. Dawdee lived to love and loved to live, and everything she taught me as a child still rings true today. She was absolutely everything magical a boy could have as a child, and I know that she is in heaven smiling down on the family she left behind. She is buried beside her husband and newphew, Joseph Medvesky, at McCurley Cemetery in Lewisville, Texas.
