I've tried to locate david for many, many years as we moved from our original area in new york so many times! how very sad i am to learn he is deceased. had he lived, i would be just slightly older. i have fond and wondeful memories of david. my husband and i were walking down the street back in 1971...it was summer...and this man was outside in the heat playing a player piano!! neither my husband nor i had ever heard or seen one. to make a long story short, we struck up a conversation with david...a very nice, kind and intelligent man, and ended up borrowing some money to buy a 1921 player piano from him! he told us it needed work...and boy...was the finish bad, but the sound was fantastic!!! and it played until a year ago as i used it daily. at the time we bought it, we could not afford to have david restore it, but he did tune it just one for free, and it always stayed in tune. we visited his family and met his two sisters. all were the nicest people i'd ever met in my entire life. and he visited our house in the "boonies" of penna. several times for dinner and just talking. i was in a terrible accident in 1978, and months afterward, my husband's company moved us to another state. i lost touch with everyone in my hometown. in later years, i tried to find david without success and also our dear friend, harvey roehl who we learned had passed away. our gorgeous player piano has had the bellows patched and re-patched, but now needs a complete re-building. i want david to do this work, but it's sadly impossible. i am now pretty much housebound, but my hubby is trying to locate someone in another town who might be able to rebuild it properly at a reasonable price. i would like to put a gold metal label on the inside with david bielinda's name on it. the piano was made in 1921 and came from binghamton. oddly, david told us it was the best made and would always stay in tune....and it has!!! i feel so very, very sad about david as i was also 31 when i had the terrible accident that destroyed my face and nearly took my life. i want so much to find his sisters and his friends, but have no idea where to search. david was our best friend, and how sad that we lost touch with one another. he was a genius and could play the piano excellently as well as restore players. we shall miss him deeply. if anyone knows of any living family members, please contact me at catsmeow@mis.net i would like to do a write-up on his life on my player piano page. thank you so much.
