Margaret Gaylor aged 18 yrs., a famine emigrant sailed from London aboard the Hendrik-Hudson bound for New York on October 5th 1846. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Robert le Gaoler, which was dated 1255, in the "Assize Court Rolls of Essex", during the reign of King Henry 111, known as "The Frenchman", 1216 - 1272.
