This is a variant spelling of the Olde German pre 10th Century 'Leheman' a status name for a feudal tenant, one who held land on loan for the duration of his life in return for rent or service or sometimes, both. The name development includes (in the U.K.) the family of John Henry Lohmeyer, all christened at St. Pancras Old Church, between 1836 (the first recorded name holder) and twenty four years later in 1860 when Fredrick Edward is the last recording. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of George Newman Lohmeyer, which was dated 1836, christened at St. Pancras, Old Church, London, during the reign of King William IV, 'The Sailor King' 1830 - 1837.
