There are many unusual features about this name, not the least being the origin. The early records suggest an anglicizing of the Olde Hebrew "Nathan", generally found in the English Midlands as Naton, Nathan or Naton being an introduction by the Crusaders in the late medieval period. However, "Nason" does not appear to be recorded in Britian at all until the 17th Century and then in Ireland, although it is claimed that the name is from Warwickshire and originally of Dutch descent. The Nasons became numerous in East Cork where they are found today, Margaret Nason of Cork, being an emigrant to America in 1846, during the Irish Famine. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of John Nason. which was dated 1623, The Register of University College, Dublin. during the reign of King James I, of England, 1603 - 1625 Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling.
