Algy R Palmer (1903-1993) *89

Algy R Palmer Born in 1903 in a small dugout on the family farm in Harper County. Algy grew up with a loving family that included two sisters. Algy saw the definiing times of our era from a unique perspective, having actually endured the Dust Bowl days of Northwest Oklahoma, where Algy said the chickens went to roost at the first dust cloud, and his family hung wet sheets over the doors and windows to keep the dust out. When the storms passed, Algy said they cleaned the house with a scoop shovel for all the dust. The cattle ended up living on Russian Thistle, otherwise known as Tumbleweeds. Algy saw the Great depression and two World Wars. All from the wheat fields of Harper County. Algy worked in a Bank in May, Oklahoma, and worked with community efforts to string electrical lines and other utilities to the developing area. In time, Algy's parents passed and Algy took on the responsibility of running the farm. He cared for his sisters, Gladys and Nora and his mother Lydia Black Palmer for the remainder of their days.
