Basclay Zapata (1946-2017) *71

Basclay Zapata was a Chilean military officer, agent of the secret police of Augusto Pinochet. He entered the army in 1965 in a regiment in the area of Chillán, wherre he reached the degree of corporal. In 1974 Zapata was commissioned to the Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional, DINA, where he became part of the Halcón I Group, dedicated to the repression of the Movement of the Revolutionary Left (MIR). He was under the orders of Miguel Krassnoff and worked alongside Osvaldo Romo. He was nicknamed "El Troglo" because he used to rape detainees. He was an aggressive and brutal torturer. During that time he married agent María Teresa Osorio, alias "Marisol" and "María Soledad", who worked at Villa Grimaldi.
