Florence Isabelle Morris Barrett Burchard (???-???)

Florence Isabelle Morris Barrett Burchard Florence Burchard was born in Detroit Michigan. Her mother (Elizabeth Shinn) was divorced when she was young and she and her mother became Seventh Daay Adventists when Florence was 13 years old. Her mother and a friend went to evangelistic meetings and told Florence about them but became discouraged and quite. But Florence had heard the preacher in another church pray that God would strike anyone dead who attended those meetings. This made her desire to go and just before the end of the meetings she invited her mother and friend to come back to the meetings where all three accepted the message and were baptized. They remained faithful for the rest of their life. After finishing academy in Michigan she went to Madison in Tennessee where she met Homer William Barrett from Pikeville, Kentucky. They were married and after five and a half years of marriage a little Boy they named Homer Willis was born. Three months later Mr. Homer William Barrett died from complications of surgery. Florence later finished her education and taught Church School in various places and eventually she and little Homer came to Dayton, Tennessee where they were starting Laurelbrook School. She named the School and wrote it's school song. She taught church school and later began teaching academy grades. In 1960 she and her new husband (James William Burchard) went to help in a mission project in Honduras C. A. That can be read about in the book "Someone had to hold the lantern." Later they helped start a school in California and then she resumed teaching at Laurelbrook. She passed away peacefully at the rest home at Laurelbrook in 2004 five days before she would have been 90 years old.
