She was a scholar, author and historian. She taught of history at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and also worked as a visiting scholar at Duke University. Lerner was a president of the Organization of American Historians and spearheaded the creation of the first graduate program in women’s history in the United States. Lerner passed away on January 2, 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin.
