Sostero was an amateur astronomer. He was a member of the Associazione Friulana di Astronomia e Meteorologia in Italy and Astronomical Observatory of Visnjan in Croatia. During his career he also wrote several scientific works which were publicated professional astronomical journals. He died of a heart attack on December 6, 2012.
