Hubert Leitgeb (1965-2012) *46

Hubert Leitgeb He had an extensive career as a member of the Italian Biathlon team, with 131 starts in World Cup competitions that included 17 finishes in the top 100. He won two World Championships Gold medals, in 1991 at Lahti and in 1994 at Canmore in the Team competition, and later winning a Bronze in the 1996 World Championships at Ruhpolding in the same discipline. In 1994 he won had a World Cup victory in an individual competition at Canmore, Alberta Canada. He retired as an active competitor in 1998 and spent the next five years working as a coach. The 46-year-old Leitgeb and his brother-in-law were hit by the avalanche. Rescuers later recovered their bodies from under the large mass of snow.
