He was a leader of the Scottish National Party. From 1956 to 1960 Halliday led the SNP. He also served as a chairman of the Scots Independent newspaper. He graduated from the Greenock High School and Glasgow University. During his career he also taught in many schools across the country, including Uddingston Grammar School and Dunfermline High School. Later he was a lecturer in history at Dundee College of Education. Halliday passed away on January 3, 2013.
