He was a Dutch-born man who was on the Simon Wiesenthal Center's list of most-wanted Nazi criminals. He served in SS unit and was sentenced to death in 1947 for the deaths of 22 Jews at the Westerbork transit camp.
Faber's term was commuted to life, but he escaped in 1952 and fled to Germany. There, he received German citizenship and avoided multiple attempts to extradite him.
