Lewis B Wasco My father lewis wasco is an example of a guy who appeared to be losing at the game of life, and evenually wins at it.He was born in a polish family of 10 i think. His parents couldn't write.Lots of violence and alcoholism.His mother called him lazy at 15 and he felt guity and joined the army in 1927.He continued to drink and when pearl harbor happened,he got the job of landing on omaha beach.He was in seven campaigns during the war.The one that really bothererd him was the battle of the bulge.The bulge happened dec 16,1944 to jan 3 1945.He always struggled at christmass,the memories came back.Its ironic that he died on dec 17.When the war ended he had nowhere to go,so he stayed in germany.He liked the people and beer.He knew my mother and 10 years later he knocked her up.I was born in 1955.He was already a very old man, i never knew my father young.He was the oldest father on the block in levittown pa.He got a simple job and with his 27 year army pension did good.He was simple,he liked work and this drove me crazy when i worked with him at bristol aluminum for 97 bucks a week.He liked his coffee before work,work, and phillies games on the weekend.Igrew up knowing that he would always pay the bills and do the right thing.I patterned myself after him when much like him i had 3 kids late in life.Iwatched him always get the short end, and not seem to really care.an example is he sent an allottment to his mother from 1927 till 1955 that bought her a row home in philly.When she died my uncle bill lived their.When he died, by all rights the house should have been owned by him.hIS BROTHERS AND SISTER SOLD THE HOUSE AND HE GOT A SHARE.He never said a word.Later when they were all old and could look back on their lives, i noticed that he got a kind of respect from all of them.He never cheated anyone,took simple pleasures in life and had good luck.I WAS SO LUCKY TO HAVE HIM.He didnt talk much and i think he talked to me more than anyone.Ilearned to tell stories from him.It wasn't how many times he told you a story, it was how he did it.I looked forward to it.He lived till 83, and died a simple soft death.The lord just took him quietly,I think because of all the hardship and violence he saw.december 17,1993 49 years after the start of battle of the bulge,
