He was a Slovak lawyer, politician and academician. He graduated from Comenius University, where he also taught. Čič was the author of several monographs in the field of criminal and constitutional law. Čič worked as the Deputy Minister of Justice and then became head of the department. He was among the leading figures of the political scene in Slovakia. He was the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic (1989-1990), member of the Federal Assembly (1190-1992), the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czechoslovak Federal Republi (1992), the first President of the Constitutional Court (1993-2000), head of the Office of President of the Slovak Republic (from 2004).
