Patrick J. Mcgrath (???-2021)

Patrick J. Mcgrath was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a full-back for club side Kilmaine and was a member of the Mayo senior football team before a lengthy carreer as a referee and an administrator. As a player, McGrath played with club side Kilmaine, and was a member of the Mayo senior panel in 1966. He also played at full-back on that year’s Mayo junior team. McGrath took up refereeing in 1965 and finished in 1997 after 32 years refereeing at every level. He refereed countless games overseas and took charge of the 1982 All-Ireland Football Final between Offaly and Kerry, as well as two All-Ireland Minor Championship finals, Railway Cup finals, national club finals, league games and International Rules games. McGrath was also heavily involved in GAA administration, serving as President of the Connacht Council and chairman of the National Referees Committee. He served as chairman of the Mayo County Board from 1997 until 2002 when he contested the presidency of the GAA.
