Biography
Philippe Halsman Philippe Halsman was an American photographer. He was born on May 2, 1906, in Riga, a part of the Russian Empire which later became Latvia. When he wwas fifteen, he discovered an old view camera in the family attic, bought some glass plates, and started making photographs. That's when he got into photography. Growing up, Halsman had a great imagination, so he went to Dresden University of Technology. Later on, Halsman gathered admirers for his art because of his bold and spontaneous photo styles. Phillippe married Yvonne Halsman in 1937. Together, they had two children, Irene (born in 1939 in Paris) and Jane (born in 1941 in New York).
