Raul Labarta (1927-2006) *79

Raul Labarta Born Hidelgrado Raul Labarta, a dreamer an aspiring poet, an inventor, a man that loved God and family. He was a man of honor. He was a teacher, aa pharmaceutical sales representative before leaving Cuba with his daughter for the United States. Leaving his wife and son behind because the boy was in military age, Hidelgrado settled in Miami and worked in Bertram Yachts , where he learned a new trade. Building fiberglass yachts and speed boats, he made a living to support his family. His wife and son would later join them in Miami. He became a naturalized USA citizen and changed his name to Raul Labarta . He loved the USA and appreciated the opportunity to make a new life away from the communist ideology he detested. He always dreamed of returning to a free Cuba. He was the happiest when he was with his family. He helped where he saw need. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He endured a long illness with dignity and without complaints. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Elia (Paneque) Labarta, his daughter Ydelia (Labarta) Eger, his son Ydel Labarta, his daughter in law, Cary Labarta, son in law, Paul A. Eger and grandchildren, Viviana Labarta,(Vivian ) Michael A. Eger(Ydelia), Victoria Labarta(Vivian) Leslie A. Eger(Ydelia), Adriana Labarta (Cary) He was also survived by loving nieces and nephews who were in attendance at his funeral. He will always be remembered by the many people his life touched.
