Alex Fafenrodt was a partner at Lawler, Felix & Hall in Los Angeles, in the Real Estate Department when I was hired as an associate in 1981. Alex was a bon vivant and well liked by everyone in the office. He was good friends with Timothy Kennedy, the brother of the Supreme Court Justice. (Tim Kennedy died in an accident while I was at the firm.) Alex was asked to join the newly opened Los Angeles office of Rogers & Wells, a New York law firm. Alex moved over to Rogers & Wells, and took with him some of the sales work for JMB Realty Corp. of Chicago, a big client of Lawler Felix at the time. Alex was instrumental in getting me a job at Rogers & Wells after he went over and I worked under Alex at Rogers & Wells until 1987. Alex and I both lived at the time in Playa del Rey. Alex was divorced at that time and had a three story condo right on the beach at Playa del Rey. Alex bought himself a beautiful, red Ferrari and I would sometimes pass by his condo and find him polishing it. Alex enjoyed fine food and wine, and later received professional training as a chef and owned and operated a restaurant in the Bay Area which he commuted to each weekend. Alex was a very good man, honest, an outstanding lawyer respected by his colleagues, loyal to his clients, and always good to me. I had moved back to Florida at the time of his death and was out of touch with my former colleagues in California and only received word of his death after his memorial service had been conducted. I wish there were some way I could have thanked Alex for all he did for me. I miss him and often think of him. He was a good man. William Mallory Kent
