Ellen died of a staff infection contracted at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. She had suffered a mild stroke at home in Cliffside Park and was admitted to Englewood hospital. She was in the hospital for several weeks, attended to by her son James K. Moorhead. After several weeks, the nurses and doctors recommended they operate to force feed Mrs. Moorhead via a tube in her stomach. Mr. James K. Moorhead agreed to the operation and it was then performed. After the operation, Mrs. Moorhead contracted a staff infection which subsequently killed her.
