This interesting surname of Scottish origin is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic "Mac Daibheid", "son of Davet", and diminutive form of the Hebrew male given name David meaning "Beloved". The surname dates back to the mid 17th Century, (see below). Further recordings include one Mary, daughter of William and Elizabeth Deson, was christened on September 7th 1673, at St. Andrew's, Holborn, Bessie Deson married John Simson on June 4th 1680, in Edinburgh, and Francis, son of Richard and Jane Desson, was christened on December 28th 1698, at St. Giles, Cripplegate, London. Samuel Richard, son of Jno. and Henrietta Desson, was christened at St. Anne Soho, Westminster, on December 26th 1796, and Agnes Desson married christina Murray in Edinburgh on March 18th 1865. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Jonas Desson witnessed the christening of his son John, which was dated 1665, St. Dunstan's, Stepney, during the reign of King Charles 11, "The Merry Monarch", 1660 - 1685.
