This is a genuine Fench Huguenot name amongst the original recordings being for instance, Jacques Formee who was christened at the famous Threadneedle Street Huguenot Church on the 19th of March 1704. The name is recorded Heraldically in Picardy as Forme, the original meaning however is more obscure but is probably a medieval nickname for a person of pleasing apearance. The name recordings in England include the following spellings James Fourmie (1753), Sara Formy (1689) and Jean Fourmy christened at Wheeler Street French Huguenot Church in 1718. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of John Formey, which was dated 1655, christened at the Church of St. Andrew by the Wardrobe, London, during the reign of Oliver Cromwell, "The Lord Protector", 1649 - 1658.
