This interesting name is of Anglo-Saxon origin, and is a locational surname deriving from any one of the places called Normanton, which are situated in the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland and Yorkshire. The marriage of Isaac Normington and Susanna Robinson was recorded in Heptonstall, Yorkshire, on March 5th 1643. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Henry de Normaneton, which was dated 1273, The Yorkshire Hundred Rolls, during the reign of King Edward 1, "The Hammer of the Scots", 1272 - 1307.
