Scurlock

This name is Olde English pre 7th century locational and derives from "Scir-Loc" which translates as the dweller at the enclosure (loc) within the district boundary (scir). In the ancient times "scir" - the modern Shive, referred to a small area, the meaning of a county came after the Norman Invasion of 1066. The name is recorded at Repton, Derbyshire in 1655 when Dorathy Scurloch was baptised and it is also found in 1694 at Radboune, but earlier references are found in London area, Mary Scurlocke being recorded in 1620 at St. James Garlick. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Joane Scurlock. which was dated 1631, (Baptised) St. Martins in the Field, London. during the reign of King Charles I, The Martyr, 1625 - 1649.
