This is a late medieval occupation descriptive name given to a professional witness, in effect an early Solicitor, the name deriving from the Olde French "Attester" - one who testifies or vouches for a contract or agreement. The modern spellings are Trustee, an in Johannes Trustee who was baptised at St. Martins in the Field, Westminster in 1665 and Trusty. A Maryllis Trusty being christened also at St. Martins in the Field on the 26th May 1689. It is possible that the name has Huguenot Associations, although this is not proven. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Thomas Trustey. which was dated 1645, (Baptised) St. Olaves, Southwark, London. during the reign of King Charles I, The Martyr, 1625 - 1649.
