The first recording of the surname dates back to the 13th Century (see below). Further recordings include one William Thurgod (1275), the Subsidy Rolls of Worcestershire and William Thorgot (1297) the Subsidy Rolls of Yorkshire. George, son of George Thurgood, was christened on July 23rd 1609, and his daughter Marye, was christened on July 25th 1610, both at St. Mary Magdalene, Old Fish Street, London.
